Introducing President Cathy Chong - 2017/18 Rotary Year
Rotary started in Chicago in 1905 by 4 businessmen: Paul Harris; Gustavus Lojr; Hiram Shorey and Silvestver Shiele.
Their aim initially was to enhance their business relationships, but soon, their aim progressed to include doing good deeds in the community and helping those less fortunate.
Rotarians have been using the 4-Way Test as a practical yardstick in their business, community and personal affairs.
“Of the things we think, say or do”
• Is it the Truth?
• Is it Fair to all concerned?
• Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships?
• Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?
Rotary is now the largest service club in the World with 1.2 million members in 200+ countries. SA has 44 clubs with over 1,000 members with District 9500 covering most of SA and half of Northern Territory.
I learned about Rotary when I came to Adelaide to study Nursing in 1968. Two of my best friends were sponsored by Rotary Exchange from Strathalbyn Club. The Rotarians there took them into their homes and introduced them to Australian cultures, values and families to 2 very lonely Malaysian girls just out of school that had never been overseas! That friendship withstood the test of time and all of us overseas students then (all 5 of us) benefited from those connections and keep up the friendships still today!
Do come and join our team at Rotary Adelaide West at the Sage Hotel on South Terrace, Adelaide on Thursdays from 1pm to 2pm for a lunch and speaker. You can arrive a bit early to have a chat and a pre-lunch drink if you choose.
We share with Members and Friends interesting speakers with commercial and community news and achievements as well as updates on the many projects our Club is involved in!
Follow our Facebook page or search through our website for updates of our activities!
Be a Friend of Rotary to learn of our activities before considering joining our Rotary Club!
Looking forward to see you and have fun through our Club, vocational, community and international service with thoughtfulness of others and helpfulness to others in our expression!!!
